Dr. Aruna Singhvi – Hatha Yoga Instructor

I was born in a Hindu Jain-Vashnev family in Western Rajasthan. Yoga was a way of my life and philosophy. I learnt the concept of karma yoga from my father who was a well known chest specialist and devoted his life to helping poor and sick people. My mother’s devotion, love and bhakti yoga gave me understanding and appreciation of my rich culture and heritage. I left home and moved west at a very young age but the values stayed and helped me under difficult times. Yama, niyama, ahimsa ( vegetarianism ), meditation and silence kept my inner balance.

I specialized in tropical medicine and taught at the universities in India, US, UK and Czech republic.
At a very young age I realized the need for a healthy body and mind and developed interest in hatha yoga which I am practicing since then. I have been teaching yoga for over two decades. With our medical background husband, Jiří Čumpelík and I have been able to use hatha yoga asanas for therapeutic purpose and the journey has been very satisfying for us. As the wisdom says it’s the journey not the destination where we should focus.

PhDr. Jiří Čumpelík, Ph.D – Physiotherapist

Throughout my career I had the opportunity to approach kinesiology from two perspectives, as a physiotherapist and as an artist. During my years of stay in India I was exposed to various influences and techniques that provided insight into the physiology of breathing mechanics and its influence on the posture and inner stability. With the cooperation of a neurologist, we explored the means of confirming spinal and breathing exercises as preventive and therapeutic techniques for functional disorders.

Since then we have organized many courses in several rehabilitation institutions, medical and physical education centers in Czech Republic, U.S., Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Australia. Workshops for European participans are organised on yearly basis at our studio in Prague.

A personal welcome from Aruna

The word yoga is perceived and understood in many different ways. I was brought up in a family with strong roots in eastern culture, lifestyle, tradition and beliefs. For me, yoga has become a way of life; allowing me to keep inner peace and to achieve calmness and it gives me a framework to lead a balanced, happy and healthy lifestyle.

Yoga can be practiced in many ways, depending on what one may wish and the goals to be attained.

Yoga consists of four basic elements which, once understood and integrated in your day to day routine, can help you achieve a meaningful life. The four concepts can be described as follows:

  • accept and respect Divine in yourself (Bhakti yoga)
  • take care of your body (Hatha yoga)
  • do your duty without expectations or results (Karma yoga)
  • and keep a positive attitude by being present in the moment.

Like a chair which is not stable when one leg is weak, the same concept applies in your life. If one area is neglected, it is bound to bring instability in your life.

The beauty of yoga is that anyone can practice it. The fast pace of today's life brings pressures and stress. Sooner or later one feels overwhelmed, with little to look forward to. This feeling of emptiness is contrary to the gift and beauty of life. Every day should be filled with joy and happiness. Lasting happiness is ones right and is achievable. Yoga gives an insight to understand who you really are.

You are welcome to join us any time and at any class. No one is perfect, no one body is perfect and no Asana is perfect. Just be yourself, keep your heart open and let the inner light guide you.
